Extract Practice

24 Extract
The authors vision in this extract was clear to me. The author wanted the audience to feel suspenseful. The author wanted the audience on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happened next. There is a buildup throughout the whole extract that leads to a big explosion of emotions. The author also wanted the audience to feel the frustration rising in the characters. This buildup of frustration also contributes to the boom of emotions towards the end of the extract.
The extract starts out with a man entering a room with a woman sitting in it. The camera zooms in on the woman and then cuts to the man. He looks angrily at the woman. He then looks at what appears to be a surveillance camera. There is already a tension between the two characters. The woman looks down when the man angrily looks at her. This interaction shows the audience they are not on friendly terms and wondering what is going to happen. The surveillance camera the man looks at shows they are being watched. This and the woman being in a chair in a dark room with just a table hints at the audience that this is an interrogation room and the woman is a criminal. The man hands the woman a paper and the camera cuts to people watching a television. This reinforces the theory that they are being watched and that the woman is a criminal.
The two people watching the ones in the room appear to be anxious as one of them is fidgeting. This builds suspense because the two in the room appear to not like each other and the ones watching them seem nervous so the audience is wondering what will happen. The dark lighting of the room gives the audience a somewhat creepy feeling that strengthens the feeling of tenseness in the scene. The music in the background is slow and along with the lighting gives the audience a feeling of suspense. This room is small and dark with only two people who do not like each other. The audience cannot help but wonder will there be yelling? Will someone get hurt? The woman looks at the clock which is the first hint that they are low on time. The dialogue lets the audience know that there is a bomb in which only the woman can deactivate. The dialogue also lets the audience know that the man does not trust the woman. He is visibly getting frustrated as he keeps pacing across the room. The woman appears calm but there can be a little agitation seen on her face when the man does not give in to her deal.
The close up on the man and the lighting highlight his anger and disgust at the woman. The frustration has built up and he throws a table. The man screams in the woman’s face as she remains calm. The camera then cuts to the people watching them grow more anxious. This builds up more suspense in the audience because the man is not being stopped even though he is being watched so it is not the climax yet. The dialogue reveals that if the man hurts the woman, he will be at a disadvantage. The man gets visibly more frustrated by her words and the music intensifies for a moment before calming down as the man backs off. Everyone calms down by his actions and more suspense is built. The man though is set off by the woman saying another thing. The frustration and suspense have built up to the point he does not care about the repercussions of his actions. The climax is reached when a split screen shows the man grabbing the woman by the neck and the watchers going to stop him. The man walks away with the watchers.
I am right, author wanted to build suspense and show frustration with this extract. Through the dark lighting and eerie music, the suspense was being built from the beginning. While the actor's facial expressions and movements showed a growing frustration between the two in the room. The actors watching from the TV built suspense with their anxious actions. The close ups and shot reverse shots highlighted the anger and frustration building. Finallythe suspense and frustration built up into the climax at the very end.

CCR

Our movie follows many conventions in the coming of age genre. The movie follows the life teenage girl who goes to high school and how the modern world more specifically social media affects her. This follows conventions because many movies in this genre follow girls specifically teenagers and their life. This movie is relatable to teenagers today as technology is more involved and affects the teen in a realistic way. Bullying is a popular way technology is used in coming of age movies but we decided to go a different route as it is more relatable in our opinion. Our product engages with audiences because it is relatable. There is a large audience that the media has not tried to reach. This audience is teens of color specifically black girls. There is a lot of diversity in this movie that not a lot of other coming of age movies has. Teens can relate to these characters especially the main who we see most in depth. Throughout every project I think my skills always get a little better because of the experience and practice I gain. This project was more hands on as it was a smaller amount of people working and planning on it. I learned how to deal with unexpected changes to plans. When story boarding we had a totally different vision for our movie. Also, there were many changes to our sound and shooting scripts. Technology is a big part of making a movie whether it be planning production advertising and filming it. We used a wide range of technologies mostly phones. We used phones in a couple different way from props to filming. We filmed our movie using a phone to go with the vibe we wanted. We wanted the audience to think it was being filmed from the point of view of a phone so what better to give that feel than a phone itself.

Movie: The Notification

This is my movie The Notification. The Notification is about a young black girl and how social media affects her. In the first scene it shows the main character waking up for school. Then we can hear her getting ready. After she is ready for school we can hear her sister saying something in the background. We find out she is talking to their mom who is in Australia. The main character says a quick hello before having to leave for school. Then we see her play her music and hear the music come in. She then greets her friends. We can hear one of them start to say something about the recent news but the main character cuts her off.  The main challenge in her life is her mom volunteering in Australia and the Australian wildfires happening at that time. The main character finds this information out through social media. The last scene which shows the main character finding out this information was unable to be filmed before the quarantine. We filmed this movie at two locations. One was my house and my neighborhood. The other was by a Dairy Queen. The original location was not supposed to be a Dairy Queen. We had to change it after finding out we could not film on school grounds. This project taught me a lot. Mostly about the in depth planning that goes into movies. It also taught me how to work well with actors. I enjoyed this project a lot.

Music Video

This music video is the second project I have done for my Aice Media class. The song is Buttercup by Jack Stauber. The music video is is fun and upbeat to it the vibe of the song. The music video shows two best friends hanging out in the mall. This song is something me and my group liked. We thought it was perfect for a music video. It was also a popular song on a large social media app at the time. I had fun filming it because we got to act like we normally do and dance. We were also lucky it was around Christmas so there was a huge and really pretty tree in the background.

Commercial

This is the first project I did for Aice Media. This is a commercial for the company Vans. It shows a girl getting a mysterious coupon. After receiving it she goes to the Vans store and buys a pair of shoes. It also shows her switch from converse to the Vans she buys. She is much happier after she buys the Vans. In the end it shows her head off into the distance with a group of people also wearing Vans.

Quaratined

Coronavirus has been affecting the whole world. My partner and I planned on filming our last scene during this week but could not due to the virus. Schools have been closed in our area so meeting up has been harder than usual. Also, my dog passed away and I needed some time to mourn. Not just our filming has been disturbed but major film companies are also being affected. Disney has an upcoming live action filmed based off of the famed movie Mulan. This release has been delayed due to Covid-19. Sony also has a new movie 'The New Mutants" which has also been delayed. Sony and Paramount movies have also been delayed. This virus has really put the world on pause. On the other hand streaming services would benefit somewhat from quarantine. Many people are staying in their homes to avoid getting the virus. Many people while bored try to pick up new shows or watch new movies. Netflix is one very popular streaming service. It has a variety of genres so it favors to many audiences. This streaming service can also be accessed on many devices so it is accessible. Also, it has shows that have hour long episodes or many seasons so it can cure many peoples boredom for a while. There are more services that also benefit besides Netflix. Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney plus. Many who have these services will be using them more and many will be getting them to cure boredom. I personally have started a new series on Netflix name All American. I also have been watching random episodes of my favorite show on Hulu.

Re-editing Blog

We had to re edit our movie. We filmed new footage and had to edit it to fit with our old footage. My group partner is the main editor in our group. This is because I prefer filming. We re filmed a scene towards the beginning. This caused us to cut out the other scene and insert the better footage. I also suggested we take out the sound in one scene. This scene is supposed to consists of the actors names rolling whilst the main gets ready. We decided instead of physically showing the main getting ready we would just insert the audio. So we had to take the audio out of this clip. We recently filmed more footage for our movie which caused unexpected changes. I had suggested we filmed yesterday but we ran into trouble. This caused us to change the date of filming. Some of our actors were unable to attend but we wanted to film as soon as possible. I suggested we replace one of the actors with speaking roles with another boy who had come along with us to film. I then realized this meant we had to change some of the titles in our movie. We have to completely cut one actor out of the title. We also have to cut another actors name out and replace it with the new actors name. We still have a little more editing to do. Overall, I feel our movie is coming along great.
